Expert Surgical Solutions for Knee Pain and Instability

When non-surgical treatments aren’t enough, we offer a full spectrum of advanced surgical options. Whether it’s repairing torn ligaments, stabilising your kneecap, or replacing worn-out joints, we tailor every treatment to your lifestyle, your anatomy, and your goals. Discover how we can help you move with confidence again.

ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) Reconstruction

A torn ACL can make your knee feel unstable, especially during sports or pivoting activities. ACL reconstruction uses a graft—often from your own hamstring or patellar tendon—to rebuild the ligament and restore stability. Modern techniques allow for faster recovery and a safe return to sport. Outcomes are excellent, with high return-to-activity rates and long-term joint protection when combined with physiotherapy. Your procedure is tailored to your injury and goals. If you have a meniscal or cartilage injury, which the majority of people do, this will be treated at the same time using key-hole techniques.

Meniscal Surgery: Repair, Meniscectomy, and Transplant

The meniscus is a vital shock absorber in your knee, and when it’s torn, it can lead to pain, swelling, and long-term joint damage if untreated.

1
Meniscal Repair
Whenever possible, we aim to save and repair your own meniscus using advanced keyhole (arthroscopic) techniques. Repairing the meniscus helps maintain knee health and reduce the risk of future arthritis.
2
Meniscectomy
When repair isn’t possible, a partial meniscectomy may be performed. This involves carefully removing only the damaged portion of the meniscus while preserving as much healthy tissue as possible, ensuring you keep as much natural cushioning as you can.
3
Meniscal Transplant
For younger, active patients with significant meniscal loss, we offer meniscal transplantation — implanting donor tissue to restore knee function and protect your joint for the future. This is a highly specialised procedure and may be combined with other procedures.

Our goal is always to protect and restore your knee, not just for today, but for the years ahead.

Cartilage 'Repair' Techniques

Healthy cartilage is essential for smooth, pain-free movement. When cartilage is damaged — whether from injury or wear — it can lead to pain, swelling, and eventually arthritis. At Total Joint Care we offer the latest techniques with a focus on restoring your natural knee function.

Nanofracture

A next-generation evolution of microfracture surgery, nanofracture involves creating tiny, precisely controlled channels in the bone to stimulate growth of cartilage-like tissue.

Hyalofast Graft

We also combine nanofracture with Hyalofast, a biodegradable scaffold that captures your own stem cells and supports the growth of new, healthy tissue similar to cartilage. This powerful combination is ideal for treating focal cartilage defects and getting you back to activity sooner.

Osteochondral Grafting

For deeper cartilage and bone defects, we offer osteochondral grafting — transplanting plugs of healthy bone and cartilage either from your own knee (autograft) or from a donor (allograft). This method replaces damaged areas with fresh, functional tissue, offering an excellent option for restoring joint surface integrity.

Cartilage treatments in isolation do not always lead to optimal outcomes and therefore our philosophy is to treat your knee holistically by assessing the shape of your bones, stability of your ligaments as well as the quality of your meniscus prior to addressing cartilage problems. These treatments can relieve symptoms and potentially delay or even prevent the need for major surgery later on.

Knee Osteotomy (Realignment)

Knee osteotomy surgery realigns the knee joint to relieve pain and delay arthritis progression, especially in younger, active patients. At Total Joint Care, this procedure offers a joint-preserving alternative to replacement, promoting better mobility, reduced discomfort, and faster recovery—helping you stay active and enjoy life without early knee replacement.

Patellar Stability Service

(MPFL Reconstruction, Tibial Tubercle Transfer, Trochleoplasty, Rotational Osteotomy)

If your kneecap feels like it slips out of place or you’ve had repeated dislocations, our Patellar Stability Service can help. Depending on the cause, we may recommend.

MPFL Reconstruction

Rebuilding the ligament that stabilises the patella

Rotational Osteotomy

Correcting twisted thigh or shin bones

Tibial Tubercle Transfer

Realigning the kneecaps pull and/or position

Trochleoplasty

Deepening the groove where the kneecap sits

We use clinical assessment and imaging to identify the cause and match the surgical plan to your unique anatomy. The result? A stable kneecap, less pain, and restored confidence in movement

Partial Knee Replacement

When only one part of the knee is worn out, a partial replacement can be a game-changer. This surgery replaces just the damaged area, preserving more of your natural bone, ligaments, and feel. Benefits include quicker recovery, a more natural movement, and excellent longevity in carefully selected patients.

Total Knee Replacement

For severe arthritis affecting the whole joint, total knee replacement is a proven solution. We replace the worn surfaces with smooth, durable implants that restore alignment, stability, and comfort. Our surgeons use advanced techniques—including patient-specific planning and precision alignment—to maximise outcomes. Patients report significant improvements in pain, mobility, and quality of life.

Complex & Bespoke Surgery

(Multiligament Reconstruction, Deformity Correction, Second Opinions)

Some knees require a tailored approach. We offer

Using 3D imaging, custom implants, and deep surgical experience, we design solutions specific to you—no one-size-fits-all approaches.
